I am very fortunate in being able to say that Kent Armstrong builds the pickups for my instruments himself (The external design is my own).
Kent has been in the industry for more than 40 years. He is undoubtedly the word expert at what he is doing and all the pickups he builds for me are custom designed to fit the players’ needs. The Hufschmid pickups are epoxy-cast, they are also technically different, thanks to an exclusive building technique Kent invented. They also have the advantage of not having any plastic bobbins inside them. This allows the coil to be in direct contact with the magnetic field, which considerably improves the inductance of the coil, providing a nice tight tone.

12 individually adjustable pole pieces make this a very versatile pick-up, giving better magnetic balance between the two coils. The reason why most people take the covers off of their pick-ups is to get more power as the slug poles are too far away from the strings in comparison to the screw poles. Now you can have full power, plus total shielding in a covered pick-up.
